Holidays – Why They Are So Important

I can’t remember the last time I took a holiday. You know, really switch off and relax.

Well what do you know, I’m finally going on vacation this year. It’s been a while since my last holiday but it’s finally here and I’m really excited! Happy holidays

A chance to unwind and relax.

So, my family and I are in Ireland for a couple of weeks, spending time with my wife’s family.

Why Do We Need Holidays?

Every now and again you need to escape from your every day life. If you don’t have some proper downtime you’re going to burnout. You need some time to repair and recuperate. When you are constantly at work your immune system becomes suppressed leaving you susceptible to illness. You’re also going to be less effective in your work and generally more lack lustre if you don’t have time off.

Do you feel stressed? There are so many people dealing with stress and when this kicks in our bodies turn to fight or flight mode and produce stress-fighting hormones. This really isn’t good for you in the long term but it’s one that a lot of us are increasingly finding ourselves in.

How Exactly Can Holidays Help Me?

Well, sometimes we need to take a holiday from ourselves. Computers, smartphones and social media can be a constant reliance. Whilst this is great for your business and communication, you can so easily become heavily reliant on them. I know I am… It does everyone good to take a break and remember that the world won’t fall apart we don’t tweet or connect with others online for a week or two!

Holidays give us time to reconnect with family and quality time to bond that we often don’t have at home and to create memories to share in years to come.

At the end of the day, we also need a certain amount of downtime to be inspired, be more creative and to think up our big ideas.

We also need downtime to get inspiration, be more creative and just to dream up our best ideas. How often have you been looking for a solution to a problem only to find the perfect solution when you’ve stopped thinking about it? It can be really restrictive for anyone to be creative and to product their best work without thinking time.

Going on vacation, spending time in different places and connecting with family members also gives us the chance to build new relationships but also to reaffirm existing ones.

Taking the time to rest and unwind allows us to nurture positive thoughts and feelings.

So What Are Your Plans For A Vacation?

I’ve only just started on my holiday. What are your plans? What do you want to get out of your holiday?

The final question I have for you is what are you still reading for? ;-) Go and get your holidays booked now!

See you all in two weeks!

    Hey Tim

    Great question.
I must be the only person on the planet that does not like going away abroad on a regular basis. Call me old fashioned but I like my house too much. But I think that’s linked with not really being a fan of aeroplanes.

Everyone that leaves a comment will be the complete opposite. We all need to take a timeout and spend time with the people we love. It’s so easy to get consumed in daily life.

      Hey Simmeon

      I hope you are well.

I just arrived back last night from Ireland. The ferry crossing wasn’t great due to the weather but we arrived back in one piece!

It’s great to take time out and relax and I feel ready to go again.

It’s always great to take time off even if you don’t go anywhere. Put your feet up for a couple of days and switch off and you’ll feel much better!

    Hi Tim
I love going on holiday, a few years ago we always visited the US a couple of times a year to de-stress and chill out, now we moved over to live on a Greek island we are both more relaxed and enjoy the freedom of working from home.
I can say it’s a little addictive being at home, I have to be on my laptop most of the day LOL but I do take off to the beach every now and then.
I would like to visit the US again sometime soon and maybe I will take my laptop with me but I will learn to switch off and take some time out to re-charge the batteries :)
Have a great time in Ireland

      Hi Pauline

It was great to get away.

It must be lovely to live on a Greek island. How long have you lived over there?

It would be so nice to finish up for the day and be able to go to the beach for some relaxation!

I’ve never been to the US. It’s on my list of things to do, along with Australia, New Zealand and more than anything I want to see the Rocky Mountains in Canada.

      Maybe one day…

    Hey Tim,

Holiday/vacation, what are those! I think I forgot what those are all about. Since I started my business online I haven’t taken a vacation.

First off, I felt that I needed to put all my money into my business so I can’t spend money on myself at this time. But I do love to travel and just enjoy time off and I think it really helps to refresh your brain and we all need that.

Now I do take breaks during the day and I do my best to not stay online all weekend long. Lately I haven’t been I sure haven’t been relaxing, my Mom will be moving so I’ve been helping her.

Either way you are right, we all need to take that time to ourselves because we deserve it.

Thanks for this reminder and you enjoy your week.

      Hey Adrienne

It’s good to spend time away from the computer anyway Adrienne. You’re a workaholic! I definitely admire your work ethic though. It’ll all be worth it when you’re a millionaire. I just know it will happen for you!

Even if you’re not relaxing whilst helping your Mom move, at least your brain is thinking about something else other than work and you’re spending time with your family.

Take a break and put your feet up after though!

Hope you have a really enjoyable week.

Thanks to you and Adrienne who suggested in a tweet to visit this post. And I’m enough happy to read it. Yup holidays are very important. During holidays of Eid, I’m going to visit Fort Derawer (Constructed in 1733) and Noor Mehel (Constructed in 1877) near Bahawalpur. Both are historically important; wud love to visit. Love your blog too. Thanks,

      Hi Abdul

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments.

Your holiday plans sound fantastic. The places you mention are no doubt steeped in history. You will have an inspiring holiday I’m sure.

Hope you have a really great week Abdul.

    Hi Tim,

I’m glad that you did take a vacation to relax and unwind. Like Adrienne, I kind of have forgotten what a vacation is. Yes, I take a little time off from time to time, but I haven’t taken a vacation to ‘go someplace else’ in quite a long time. Just yesterday I told my husband we should go on a real family vacation soon. So the thought is out there, it just needs some planing now.

    Thanks for the reminder!

    All the best,

      Hi Ilka

Thanks. It was great to get away and relax. I recommend it! :-).

You should definitely take at least a week off and go on a family vacation. It’s worth it!

Hope you get that vacation planned soon.
